I wanted to touch on some things that I would “like” for my photography hobby (which seems to have taken over quite a bit).

I use a Fuji FinePix S5700, also known as S700 in the US (because Nikon has a S5700 in the US).

You could also consider this a list for you, if you want to start photography, as you will probably need or want this at some point when you’re starting out.

1. Flickr Pro account - Mass high resolution storage on the web, share, comment and also videos make this a total must. Also, unrelated to being pro or not, you can join groups with subject matters that are either photography styles, or a group for the camera itself.

2. New Tripod - Absolute must! If you want to take anything that is low light, you will need a tripod, as you have to lower the shutter speed (allow the light to enter the camera for a longer time) and thus, if the camera is in your hands, you will get camera shake or blurred images.

3. Book: The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby - I normally don’t like Kelby’s writing style, but I have seen a lot of reviews that have been good about this book. So I am open to it now and hopefully I can see past the style, like so many people have.

4. Cokin A Photo Filter System - This will give me an interchangeable system of polarizer, UV and gradient filters. My buddy Rob tested these out and they are super for the S5700.

5. Wide Angle Fisheye lens - This lens is curved and lets you take a wider image.

    sighs….

I want a DSLR (period). :cool
I’ve got the step up camera from what you have or at least that’s my impression, lol…i seriously don’t know. But! I do like it and I have had relatively few problems with it. And! It takes great low light shots. Of course I have this handy dandy tripod mounted on the front of me…..as long as it doesn’t shake like jello, huh. Hah…hah One of the biggest things is it isn’t convenient.I need something to snap and shoot on the fly. Oooopsie…see. That’s just it! Once you get started there is never an end. LOL!

Nice list! One of these days I’m going to sign up for a class. I keep saying that..so hopefully soon. You know kids and all…take up so much time….hee.

Welp! Trains leaving the station. I’m hearing the call. All aboard! Off to the Hundred Acre Woods! Thanks for stopping by. I’ll see how many shot I can get. Not uncommon for it to be in the hundreds, why is that(?). :-)

I am writing a new post right now Twix but I promise the next one after will be about books I have read and lessions I have learned…

What camera do you have now.

Since Tech pill blog is sorta dead I have been thinking of doing a Photo pill since that is my heavy hobby right now.. Would you be intrested in reading that?

Anyways remember to pack plenty of batteries and memory cards! ;-)

I too have a S5700 and find it a great camera. It’s not perfect, but it is a heavy hitter. I find that sometimes it doesn’t save a pic fast enough for the next shot, for example at a race track, shots are missed when the poor camera is saving. If you set it to constant save where is allows multiple shots to be taken it is a complete disaster. Instead set it to 3 frames and it can cope.

Thanks for the tips on the filters and fisheye lens. I came from an old slr - a Pentax Spotmatic and I had a 28mm wide angle lens. This I miss. Cameras are a compromise - so is life!

    Hey Tony thanks for visiting.

Yeah I tried to experiment with time lapse photography where you take a series of pictures and make them into a super fast movie.

The issue with the S5700 is even when you turn off all the Auto Focusing modes and set it to manual it still takes a frame as 1.3 sec which to be honest is was too long to be usable. What you happen is I would be on a street taking shots of people walking along the street and some people walking across would only be there for one frame. Its called the blip effect.

Seems a lot can happen in 1.3 secs!

Nice blog btw I will check it out :-)
