Quick Dresses

Written by The Lassie

The Munchkin and I are spending a few days at my father’s house in Hesse. The heat around here is smothering, so I made these three dresses for our littlest to take with us:

I know it’s not exactly original to sew three dresses that look the same except for the fabrics, but this cut is just soo practical, light and airy and looks adorable on my baby girl.

I’m trying to get some studying done while I am here – which actually was the only reason for me to come here at this point, without the Lad. I miss him terribly. We’ve only been really apart on two occasions that I can remember since we got married and both of these times weren’t by choice. This time around, the Lad had to stay behind because he has work to do, which sucks, but who am I to complain? I am very grateful he’s back into work – and doing something he enjoys, I might add. Meanwhile, our baby’s Kita is closed for three weeks and I had noone to look after her when I needed to study, so my father suggested I come here to have him and my sister and brother in law watch her a few hours per day. Well, this arrangement has not really come to pass so far and I am increasingly worried and anxious. I am not getting anywhere as far as my studies are concerned. I feel overwhelmed and I have no idea how to fix the situation. For a number of reasons, I have to be done with uni in a few months, but right now, I have no clue how to get there.

Oh gosh, the fabric with the little owls is my favorite. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having the same style dress in different fabrics. It’s how I buy most of my wardrobe. ;) I am seriously going to have to get some patterns from you for making dresses for this baby when she comes. For some reason sewing clothing for a girl seems more accessible than sewing clothing for the boy does.

I love love love the dresses you made! I don’t suppose the pattern you used is available in Canada, but just in case could you share what pattern you used? I have two little girls (and a third on the way) who I would love to start sewing for. The sewing machine I got for my birthday back in November is practically mocking me and I need to show it who’s boss….

@Audrey: hehe, me too. I just thought the same dress over and over again would get old soon, but no, it still looks cute today. The Munchkin loves the owls, too – she looks at them and goes ‘hoo hoo’ every time she sees them. Let me know when you need any patterns or whatever ;-)

@cello.mum: Thanks so much! I am pretty sure you could get the pattern ;-) It’s actually in PDF format. I bought it on Etsy, it’s by Leila&Ben and it’s called ‘Sweet Dress’ (they have their own website too, if you can’t find it on Etsy. Just google the name). This dress is seriously soo easy to make. Sewing for kids is so much fun!! I don’t suppose you could share your works when you decide to give it a go?

Not just one but three! You’ve been busy! Maybe you need to remind your father, gently about his idea of watching your little one so you can study……
